What is your plan when you finish college?

I think several students in a similar position to me will agree that this is the most annoying question somebody could possibly ask you. You just managed to get over the last big set of exams, you are knee-deep stuck with work to finish your thesis research and then this question..

Although it was clear from very early on that I wanted to do something revolving around tourism, the light above my head switched on when I had completed an eMarketing module during college.

So I decided to find out what I needed to do and more importantly what I needed to know in order to become a digital marketer. Two weeks afterwards I found myself in front of my computer screen with dark rings around my eyes and a sore back having barely left this position 24/7 (maybe a tiny bit exaggerated). I found there is a wealth of information out there for you to discover, but it is a never ending process in which you firstly have to find your way around blogs and expert posts, you have to determine which articles and bloggers are relevant to you (and which ones are spamy) and then you have to find the time to read the stuff.
Then I came across Hillel’s article on why everybody should have a blog which was when I started putting one and one together and created the Aspiring Digital Marketer.

Finishing up my introductory post I want to let you know what you can expect when you follow this blog: Regular infos on how to upgrade your knowledge on the use of digital media for marketing purposes (including SEO, Social Media, Adwords, Analytics) and tips on how to go about becoming a marketer. Not that I know all those insights myself, but I will do some information sourcing for you and I will put it all together and at some stage bring it in context to tourism. If tourism is not your dicipline, this will still be helpful for you as the basics are uniform to any industry. Lesson one: once you have the online marketing knowledge, you can apply it to any industry.

Enjoy and let me know what you think!
